25 years Art + Anodised surfaces by Heiner Thiel

Art + Anodising since 1996
Heiner Thiel has been working with the full spectrum of possible anodising colors for 25 years as of 2021. The concavely shaped and individually cut aluminum plates and sheets ideally utilize the reflective properties of the anodised surfaces. The effect is vibrant; the points of light and shadow move with the viewer and glow from every angle.

The Special Colours
While searching for a new color, Heiner Thiel was introduced to ALUTECTA by a fellow artist and, thanks to the advice and samples provided by Axel Weirich, recognized the potential to add an extra dimension to his objects with these „special“ colours. The fruitful collaboration has continued since 1996, resulting in 500 very diverse works based on ALUTECTA's extensive anodised colour spectrum.
How Anodised Surfaces Become Art
To transform an anodised aluminum part into a finished work of art, Thiel takes an additional, elaborate processing step. The anodised layer on the edges is mechanically removed. At the edges, the extremely thin colored surface then meets the raw, polished aluminum. Thiel thus emphasizes the tension between the physical layer thickness and the almost three-dimensional effect of the coloured surfaces. „Art collectors are thrilled by the luminosity and depth of color contained in this surface, which is only a few thousandths of a millimeter thick.“
