Anodised Gold Windows + Facade Junghof Plaza Frankfurt

Sandalor^® Dark - Gold

Between Goetheplatz and Opernplatz in Frankfurt, the renovated Junghof Plaza opened in 2021. Dark gold anodised windows, reveals, and facade elements were designed by the architectural firm Henning Larsen as a key design element. The reflective properties of the anodised colors give the dark gold hue a warm glow. The aluminum surfaces provide a beautiful contrast to the cool, reflective windows and the light stone elements, creating a visually balanced structure. A recessed courtyard breaks up the facade and, clad entirely in aluminum panels, offers a tranquil and visually calming retreat. The quality of the execution demonstrates how precisely technical requirements, material properties, and architectural concepts were successfully coordinated during the planning phase. Facade panels in the courtyard meet the stone facade elements at the corner. Two square recesses spanning two floors break up the facade and, like the courtyard, are fully clad in aluminum. Two different aluminum alloys are used in the project. Sheet metal on the facade and profile elements in windows and reveals. Anodising doesn't conceal the base material but allows the aluminum and surface texture to show through. Due to the different alloy components and the manufacturing process, it's practically impossible to anodise and color sheets and profiles to be visually identical. The architects and planners at Henning Larsen cleverly utilize this property in their designs by employing two different levels of brightness.
